A Day the Children Will Never Forget

During the last half-term break, we wanted to create a special moment for the children who live with us at Korando. Life here is full of routines-school, chores, learning, and growing together-but every now and then it is important to give the children a day that is simply about joy.
So we planned something many of them had never experienced before.

We rented a bus for the day and took 46 children who stay with us at Korando on a trip into town to eat pizza together. From the moment the bus arrived, the excitement was impossible to miss. The children climbed on board with huge smiles, laughter filling the bus as we began the short journey to town.
For many of them, this was already a big adventure.
When we arrived at the restaurant, the children sat together around the tables, looking with curiosity and excitement as the pizzas were served. For some of them, it was the very first time they had ever eaten pizza.
The room quickly filled with laughter, chatter, and the joy of sharing something special together. Some children took careful first bites, while others could not wait and immediately reached for another slice.
Faces that so often carry the weight of difficult pasts were now simply glowing with happiness.

In that moment, nothing else mattered-just the simple joy of being together, eating, laughing, and feeling like children should feel.
Many of the children who live with us come from very challenging backgrounds. Because of this, experiences that many people might see as small-like going out to eat-can become unforgettable memories for them.
That day reminded us once again how powerful simple acts of kindness and shared moments can be.
The bus ride back home was quieter, but full of satisfied smiles and sleepy, happy faces.
It was a small trip, but for the children it was a day full of joy, dignity, and belonging—a day they will remember for a long time.
We are deeply grateful to everyone who supports the Korando initiative. Because of you, we can create not only safety and stability for the children, but also moments like these that fill their childhood with joy and good memories.
